Mars in Scorpio in the Eleventh House

The placement of Mars in Scorpio indicates that you are likely to have desires that spring from a need for power or intimacy and that your actions are likely to be influenced by your intense emotional drives. This often manifests in your actions having an intensity that is the result of focused emotional energy. Others may, therefore, see you as powerful or aggressive. Much of the behavior and many of the personality characteristics associated with Mars in Scorpio are a result of your deep need for emotional security that is brought about through intimacy  or feeling that you are in control of your actions and desires.

Although Scorpio was formerly considered to be ruled by Mars, the Mars in Scorpio placement has its ambiguities. This is symbolized by the natural quincunx between Scorpio and Mars-ruled Aries. Scorpio is the Fixed Water sign. The active functions associated with Mars symbolically tap into the source of power inherent in Scorpio’s watery depths. The Mars-Scorpio 关系 may be likened to that of fire and water in a boiler. What is produced is high-pressured steam and energy. When there is a controlled and constructive outlet for this energy, it is a powerful source  of work. If the energy is blocked, suppressed and bottled up with no outlet, it becomes destructively explosive. Scorpio’s association with sexuality through the intense duality inherent in Pluto, its ruling planet, tends to heighten the sexual dimension associated with Mars.

Mars also symbolizes the animus in the psyche. Thus, if you are male with Mars in Scorpio, you are likely to model your masculinity in order to incorporate characteristics typically associated with Scorpio. As alluded to above, this often is associated with an identification of masculinity with sexuality and often, the Scorpio Mars male must struggle to rise above this tendency or to overcome or control intense sexual impulses. If you are female, you are likely to be attracted to someone who projects or embodies Scorpio-associated traits. This often manifests as an attraction to powerful, magnetic or sexually vibrant men.

Having Mars in Scorpio, because you are inwardly insecure, you are always seeking power in order to validate your selfhood and attain a feeling of security. If you attain power, you mistake the power that you feel as being personal and yours, rather than recognizing the truth that all power is from the One Source and is only lent to us for our use. Because you have a need to prove your superiority to yourself, you use this power to dominate others. Pure lust for power is a symptom of your inner feeling of powerlessness.  With Mars in Scorpio, you may also fear being controlled and so, in defense, seek to act to control others. On the other hand, if you are extremely insecure, you may shrink from asserting power either out of fear of the consequences should you misuse that power or out of fear that your use of power may prompt someone with greater power to exercise it against you.

Mars in the 11th House:

Mars in the 11th House suggests that you desire a broader field of action than most people are satisfied with. This may stem from a need to feel socially useful, a desire for recognition, a need to feel part of a group or a concern about the state and future of humanity. Having Mars in the 11th House, the scope of your activity can range from involvement in clubs and other social groups to broad involvement in civic affairs, social causes or even world affairs. Generally, you may feel that you need to make a difference in the world, or your community, and, therefore, you must take action that extends beyond yourself and your own concerns.

With Mars in the 11th House, your actions will also tend to be future-oriented, or designed to have an impact that outlasts yourself. Because of your broad involvement, you may be very busy with activities that are outside the scope of home and work. Although you may have many interests, you will generally be focused and committed once you become engaged in taking action. Because of your orientation toward the future, you may be very good at planning your actions. Having Mars in the 11th House, you are also likely to act more often in group situations than alone.  Sometimes, however, you may be reluctant to take action unless you have the approval of the group. The group, or whatever organization or cause provides you with outward extension, may become a vehicle for propelling and motivating your active energy. In this way, you become more energized and able to accomplish things.

As an individual with Mars in the 11th House, if you are inwardly insecure, you will find it difficult to maintain your self-esteem without the approval of others. You have very little authentic individual identity and you, therefore, take your identity from your group involvement and from how others see you. You take action within the group that is designed to enhance your own status and draw the attention of the group towards yourself. With Mars in the 11th House, you may act on behalf of the group, generally as its leader or jockeying for a leadership position, but you are really acting on your own behalf. All of your protestations of good will and concern for others are just that. You would really not do anything to benefit anyone unless it did you some good. Your actions never go against the group’s will, for you could not stand to fall out of favor with the group.

With Mars in the 11th House, your underlying desire is generally to outlive yourself through your actions having an impact that reaches beyond your own individuality. More specifically, you may desire the recognition and approval of some group or some organization or institution that is greater than yourself. You usually want to feel part of something that is more than yourself. To the extent that you transcend yourself, your desire will be for the welfare of the group to which you belong. The farther you transcend yourself, the wider this group becomes, until it can become all of Creation.
