Because of your own insecurities about your self-worth, you may assume that others think ill of you. This may lead you to adopt a highly critical attitude towards others as a defense mechanism. In this, you are merely responding in-kind to the attitudes that you assume others express toward you. When your negative attitudes go beyond just thinking, you may become verbally abusive.

With Mercury in the 7th House, your intellect tends to be focused on others. You are likely to pay attention to what others think and the opinions that they express before forming your own opinions. You will also generally think about and analyze your relationships. This generally helps you to put your relationships in perspective, define yourself with respect to others and foster growth in your relationships. If you have an intellectual or academic interest in relationships, this may lead to a career in psychology or counseling.
