If you value things, your identity will be determined by the things you possess. If, on the other hand, you value virtue or spirituality, then you will identify yourself as a person concerned with these things.

If you never address this issue, then the super-ego and societal conditioning are likely to make this determination for you. This will most likely result in you placing high worth on material acquisitions, because that is what society conditions us to value. Your access to resources, or lack thereof, is likely to affect your sense of security. If you possess little, you may suffer from lack of self-esteem. One defense against low self-esteem is to value what you have, whether it is great or little, because the more you consider that your possessions are valuable, the more self-worth you experience.  If you suffer a loss of your possessions, it is likely to be a particularly hard blow because this loss strikes at your very identity and self-worth. When you measure yourself by how much you have lost or gained, then the Sun in the 2nd House placement is a particularly weak and dependent astrological position.
