Essential Oils for Addiction Support

Addiction Support

Addiction to drugs, alcohol, gambling, and other substances or activities causes serious problems for millions. People who are fighting addiction respond well to natural treatments coupled with behavior modification, intervention, and community support such as a 12-step program. Seek professional help if behaviors surrounding addiction worsen, or if the addict is a threat to himself or herself, or others.

Curb Cravings with Peppermint

Peppermint essential oil aids in eliminating the cravings that can lead to a relapse. It can be diffused, worn in an aromatherapy pendant, or simply dotted onto a cotton ball near the person in need of support. Cilantro and grapefruit essential oils also help stop harmful cravings, whether for sugar, alcohol, or other addictive substances.

Ease Withdrawal with Sandalwood

Withdrawal symptoms cause discomfort and severe anxiety. Sandalwood essential oil has a potent calming effect that can ease the transition from addiction to sobriety. Diffuse the essential oil in the area where the sufferer spends the most time, or add sandalwood essential oil to an aromatherapy pendant. You can also add 1 or 2 drops to a cotton ball in a bath or shower. Grapefruit, lavender, lemon, Roman chamomile, and tangerine essential oils can be used if sandalwood essential oil is not available.
