Mars in Libra in the Eleventh House

The placement of Mars in Libra indicates that you are likely to have desires that spring from a need for social interaction and that your actions are likely to be influenced by your need for social 関係 and harmony. This often manifests in a certain grace, balance and harmony in your actions because you are motivated to please others and you are careful not to cause social disharmony through your actions. Much of the behavior and many of the personality characteristics associated with Mars in Libra are a result of your desire for and involvement with preserving social harmony.

The placement of Mars in Libra is often problematic. This is symbolized by the natural opposition between Libra and Mars-ruled 牡羊座. Libra is the Cardinal Air sign. Libra’s association with the qualities of balance and harmony generally lead you to be concerned about how your actions may upset others. This hampers the assertiveness that is a function symbolized by Mars and an essential component of the Mars energy. With Mars in Libra, you may often find that you must suppress your own desires and act in an environment of concern for others or even have to act through others. Thus, developing the Mars-symbolized functions to their full potential may be challenging.

Mars also symbolizes the animus in the psyche. Thus, if you are male with Mars in Libra, you are likely to model your masculinity in order to incorporate characteristics typically associated with Libra. This may present some problems, in that Libra is associated with a softer, more passive energy than is typically associated with the masculine.  If you are female, you are likely to be attracted to someone who projects or embodies Libra-associated traits.

With Mars in Libra, when you are insecure in your selfhood, you are unsure of the role of self in your relation to others. This being the case, you are generally reluctant to be assertive in a relationship, for to be assertive, you must be aware of and confident of your own position. Having Mars in Libra, the result is that your actions are likely to be dominated by others’ desires. It is difficult for you to take independent action and you always seem to be dependent on another for direction. If called upon to take your own action or express your own desires, you cannot and look for someone else to act or to tell you what to do.

Mars in the 11th House:

Mars in the 11th House suggests that you desire a broader field of action than most people are satisfied with. This may stem from a need to feel socially useful, a desire for recognition, a need to feel part of a group or a concern about the state and future of humanity. Having Mars in the 11th House, the scope of your activity can range from involvement in clubs and other social groups to broad involvement in civic affairs, social causes or even world affairs. Generally, you may feel that you need to make a difference in the world, or your community, and, therefore, you must take action that extends beyond yourself and your own concerns.

With Mars in the 11th House, your actions will also tend to be future-oriented, or designed to have an impact that outlasts yourself. Because of your broad involvement, you may be very busy with activities that are outside the scope of home and work. Although you may have many interests, you will generally be focused and committed once you become engaged in taking action. Because of your orientation toward the future, you may be very good at planning your actions. Having Mars in the 11th House, you are also likely to act more often in group situations than alone.  Sometimes, however, you may be reluctant to take action unless you have the approval of the group. The group, or whatever organization or cause provides you with outward extension, may become a vehicle for propelling and motivating your active energy. In this way, you become more energized and able to accomplish things.

As an individual with Mars in the 11th House, if you are inwardly insecure, you will find it difficult to maintain your self-esteem without the approval of others. You have very little authentic individual identity and you, therefore, take your identity from your group involvement and from how others see you. You take action within the group that is designed to enhance your own status and draw the attention of the group towards yourself. With Mars in the 11th House, you may act on behalf of the group, generally as its leader or jockeying for a leadership position, but you are really acting on your own behalf. All of your protestations of good will and concern for others are just that. You would really not do anything to benefit anyone unless it did you some good. Your actions never go against the group’s will, for you could not stand to fall out of favor with the group.

With Mars in the 11th House, your underlying desire is generally to outlive yourself through your actions having an impact that reaches beyond your own individuality. More specifically, you may desire the recognition and approval of some group or some organization or institution that is greater than yourself. You usually want to feel part of something that is more than yourself. To the extent that you transcend yourself, your desire will be for the welfare of the group to which you belong. The farther you transcend yourself, the wider this group becomes, until it can become all of Creation.
