Mercury in Taurus in the Seventh House

The placement of Mercury in Taurus indicates you have a need for security in the mental environment. Very often, this sense of mental security derives from a knowledge of physical security. Much of the behavior and many of the personality characteristics associated with Mercury in Taurus are a result of this need to have a mental perception of safety and security. Therefore, it is often the case that the functions associated with Mercury are focused in their application on acquiring and retaining the elements of physical and material security. This diligent application tends to concentrate those functions and develop tenaciousness.

Taurus is the Fixed Earth sign. Both the fixity and the earthiness of Taurus’ nature symbolically slow and entrap the quick and airy nature associated with Mercury. This is not entirely without benefit, as this forces these functions to concentrate, thus allowing them to fulfill their purpose. The benefit of the practical and concrete nature thus conferred is symbolized by the natural trine existing between Taurus and Mercury-ruled Virgo. Still, the fixed earth influence on Mercury can result in tension or a lack of optimization with respect to the Mercury-symbolized functions, as their natural proclivities are held back considerably.

Insécurités

Having Mercury in Taurus, if you are insecure, your lack of mental quickness and ready mental grasp can easily cause you to lose your intellectual self-confidence. You are likely to compensate for this feeling of inferiority by taking satisfaction in your possessions.  Your mind is thoroughly attached to its activity of thinking about gain and loss.  This attachment keeps you from thinking about the real value of life, which is not in intellectual achievement. Of course, if you also lack possessions, you are likely to feel particularly insecure and those functions symbolized by Mercury will be constantly engaged in thinking about your physical and material welfare.

Mercury in the 7th House:

The 7th House is generally a favorable placement for Mercury, since it tends to bring out the communication function represented by the planet. With Mercury in the 7th House, your relations are more likely to be mental than emotionally based. Your mental energy tends to be directed externally, toward others, rather than introspectively. As an individual with Mercury in the 7th House, you are likely to enjoy the communication involved in relationships, especially when others respond favorably to your communications and to your mental energy. You may, therefore, be quite active in forming and carrying on relationships with a variety of people. You are likely to enjoy people due to the mental stimulation that they provide you.

Having Mercury in the 7th House, your thoughts may dwell on your actual or potential relationships with others. If you become too mentally involved, you may become overly analytical or critical of your relationships. You may also suffer from worry over your relationships.  With Mercury in the 7th House, you may also be vulnerable to your thoughts and perceptions being influenced by your relation partner(s) or even by those with whom you come in contact. The thought of wanting to please other people may become too dominant, to the extent that you lose your independence of mind or say things you really don’t believe in because you want others to think well of you.

Insécurités

As an individual with Mercury in the 7th House, if you are inwardly insecure, you will be overly concerned with what others think of you. Your thoughts will dwell too much on the reactions that others have to you and you worry about this constantly. This may make you cautious or reluctant to communicate to others or you may say only what you think others want to hear. Because of your own insecurities about your self-worth, you may assume that others think ill of you. This may lead you to adopt a highly critical attitude towards others as a defense mechanism. In this, you are merely responding in-kind to the attitudes that you assume others express toward you. When your negative attitudes go beyond just thinking, you may become verbally abusive.

Intellect’s Focus

With Mercury in the 7th House, your intellect tends to be focused on others. You are likely to pay attention to what others think and the opinions that they express before forming your own opinions. You will also generally think about and analyze your relationships. This generally helps you to put your relationships in perspective, define yourself with respect to others and foster growth in your relationships. If you have an intellectual or academic interest in relationships, this may lead to a career in psychology or counseling.
