Mars in Scorpio in the First House

The placement of Mars in Scorpio indicates that you are likely to have desires that spring from a need for power or intimacy and that your actions are likely to be influenced by your intense emotional drives. This often manifests in your actions having an intensity that is the result of focused emotional energy. Others may, therefore, see you as powerful or aggressive. Much of the behavior and many of the personality characteristics associated with Mars in Scorpio are a result of your deep need for emotional security that is brought about through intimacy  or feeling that you are in control of your actions and desires.

Although Scorpio was formerly considered to be ruled by Mars, the Mars in Scorpio placement has its ambiguities. This is symbolized by the natural quincunx between Scorpio and Mars-ruled Aries. Scorpio is the Fixed Water sign. The active functions associated with Mars symbolically tap into the source of power inherent in Scorpio’s watery depths. The Mars-Scorpio relation may be likened to that of fire and water in a boiler. What is produced is high-pressured steam and energy. When there is a controlled and constructive outlet for this energy, it is a powerful source  of work. If the energy is blocked, suppressed and bottled up with no outlet, it becomes destructively explosive. Scorpio’s association with sexuality through the intense duality inherent in Pluto, its ruling planet, tends to heighten the sexual dimension associated with Mars.

Mars also symbolizes the animus in the psyche. Thus, if you are male with Mars in Scorpio, you are likely to model your masculinity in order to incorporate characteristics typically associated with Scorpio. As alluded to above, this often is associated with an identification of masculinity with sexuality and often, the Scorpio Mars male must struggle to rise above this tendency or to overcome or control intense sexual impulses. If you are female, you are likely to be attracted to someone who projects or embodies Scorpio-associated traits. This often manifests as an attraction to powerful, magnetic or sexually vibrant men.

Insécurités

Having Mars in Scorpio, because you are inwardly insecure, you are always seeking power in order to validate your selfhood and attain a feeling of security. If you attain power, you mistake the power that you feel as being personal and yours, rather than recognizing the truth that all power is from the One Source and is only lent to us for our use. Because you have a need to prove your superiority to yourself, you use this power to dominate others. Pure lust for power is a symptom of your inner feeling of powerlessness.  With Mars in Scorpio, you may also fear being controlled and so, in defense, seek to act to control others. On the other hand, if you are extremely insecure, you may shrink from asserting power either out of fear of the consequences should you misuse that power or out of fear that your use of power may prompt someone with greater power to exercise it against you.

Mars in the 1st House:

Mars rules the 1st House and, thus, Mars in the 1st House suggests that you have a strong desire/action function. With Mars in the 1st House, if you have a confident sense of self and a clear identity, then your desires are likely to be expressed through that identity and you are likely to take assertive action in order to fulfill your desires.

As an individual with Mars in the 1st House, desire and action also may help to shape your identity. What you desire may be reflected in your self-image and the actions that you take in response to these desires may define your identity, both to yourself and to others.

With Mars in the 1st House, you are generally not shy about acting on your own behalf or asserting your own desires and wishes. The self-confidence that you project through your actions often leads to respect and admiration from others. You may particularly be seen as an individual of action.

Having Mars in the 1st House, it may be easy for you to act and pursue your desires, because you tend to do so from a standpoint of innocence or naiveté – that is, secondary considerations or inhibitions that may result from your contemplating the effect your actions may have on others tend not to occur. Thus, you may take and express much freedom of action.

Insécurités

As an individual with Mars in the 1st House, if you are inwardly insecure, you will not know your authentic self. You are, therefore, constantly proving your identity by asserting yourself and your personality, especially through your actions. With Mars in the 1st House, you have no control over your desires, but you feel a right to pursue whatever you want without consideration for others.

Having Mars in the 1st House, if you are not taking action, particularly if you are not asserting yourself in some way, you are likely to feel vulnerable and empty. Others may consider you to be pushy or too aggressive, or even anti-social in your behavior. However, you consider that such behavior establishes your identity and gains you the respect of others.
