The placement of Venus in Gemini indicates that you have a need for flexibility and freedom, both within your relations and in the way in which you formulate your value system. This sometimes manifests as an ambivalent attitude toward commitment. This placement also symbolizes an approach to those functions symbolized by Venus that is mental in nature. Much of the behavior and many of the personality characteristics associated with Venus in Gemini are a result of your need for freedom from restraint in relationships and in the operation of a value system, as well as the mental energy with which you engage these areas of life.

With Venus in Gemini, Gemini is the Mutable Air sign and here the Venusian energies symbolically become light and free in Gemini’s changeable air environment. However, this may not be conducive to building stable relationships and value systems. The basic harmony inherent in the Venus in Gemini placement is symbolized by the natural trine between Gemini and Venus-ruled Libra, while the tension is symbolized by the conflict between the free-moving air of Gemini and the stable and enduring qualities associated with Taurus, which is also ruled by Venus. With Venus in Gemini, the relation functions symbolized by Venus tend to be more pronounced in your psyche and personality than is the case for most people.

Thus, if you are female with Venus in Gemini, you are likely to model your femininity in order to incorporate characteristics typically associated with Gemini. If anyone asks you to commit to a relationship (or to a permanent set of values of any sort) or tries to become too deep and intimate with you, you are likely to feel threatened and push them away.

The function symbolized by Venus of evaluating perceptions and sensations is likely to be heightened with Venus in the 3rd House. You are likely to be particularly sensitive to your immediate surroundings and very much aware of what is around you. As an individual with Venus in the 3rd House, you may have strong or definite reactions to people and things in your environment, as you are likely to immediately judge whether something is good or pleasing as soon as its impression is received.

The emphasis suggested by Venus in the 3rd House is on the here and now and your interaction with and reaction to what is immediately occurring. You often may want to learn about your world by experiencing it, absorbing its impressions, taking it all in and then judging its worth. You may see much beauty in the world around you. Your focus is more likely to be external and you may not be given much to reflection or reevaluation. Once you has experienced and tasted a thing, you are often ready to move on to the next experience.

With Venus in the 3rd House, everything that you perceive is the subject of your judgment. If you are inwardly insecure, you are afraid of pain and you crave that which is pleasant to the senses. Therefore, your mind is always thinking: this will give me pleasure/this will give me pain/I like this/I do not like that. You feel that you should only have pleasure. To suffer is not to live. To suffer is to bear punishment and you would rather not consider (consciously or subconsciously) that you have done things that have produced suffering. Thus, having Venus in the 3rd House, when suffering comes upon you, you become depressed or you want to run away and escape your pain. You wish to run toward those sensual pleasures that will assuage your pain. But, since your experience of what is attractive and what is distasteful is immediate and ever-present, you are usually either fearing and avoiding what is unpleasant or you are blinding yourself from the reality of your pain.
