Mars in Aquarius in the First House

The placement of Mars in Aquarius indicates a strong desire for change and, at a deeper level, for individuation. Your actions, therefore, tend to express your individuality. Change is, for the most part, a manifestation of your desire for freedom from the constraints of stability. With Mars in Aquarius, the change/freedom urge often manifests itself in you as your actions taking unconventional forms or otherwise contravening the staid and conventional. Much of the behavior and many of the personality characteristics associated with Mars in Aquarius are a result of your need for individual freedom and, particularly, the need to act to distinguish yourself from the common mass.

The placement of Mars in Aquarius is generally conducive to the positive development of those functions associated with Mars. This is symbolized by the natural sextile between Aquarius and Mars-ruled Aries. Aquarius is the Fixed Air sign. Like a wind (air irresistibly in motion), Aquarius symbolically sweeps the Mars functions along a path of constant change, thus always providing new opportunities for action to find expression. With Mars in Aquarius, Air provides freedom for the Mars functions to act in new ways, while the fixity of Aquarius provides the strength to act with effectiveness. The danger inherent in this placement, as in anything, is imbalance – getting carried away in a storm of change.

Mars also symbolizes the animus in the psyche. Thus, if you are male with Mars in Aquarius, you are likely to model your masculinity in order to incorporate characteristics typically associated with Aquarius. You are likely to associate masculinity with individuality.  If you are female, you are likely to be attracted to someone who projects or embodies Aquarius-associated traits. This sometimes may result in your being attracted to someone who expresses himself unconventionally or with originality or who is an individualist.

Insecurities

As an individual with Mars in Aquarius, your being set apart by your desires and actions, is the overt reason for your insecurity, although the real underlying cause of your insecurity is your subconscious knowledge that your desires and actions are not the expressions of your real identity. As an individual with Mars in the 1st House, desire and action also may help to shape your identity. What you desire may be reflected in your self-image and the actions that you take in response to these desires may define your identity, both to yourself and to others.

With Mars in the 1st House, you are generally not shy about acting on your own behalf or asserting your own desires and wishes. The self-confidence that you project through your actions often leads to respect and admiration from others. You may particularly be seen as an individual of action.

Having Mars in the 1st House, it may be easy for you to act and pursue your desires, because you tend to do so from a standpoint of innocence or naiveté – that is, secondary considerations or inhibitions that may result from your contemplating the effect your actions may have on others tend not to occur. Thus, you may take and express much freedom of action.

Insecurities

As an individual with Mars in the 1st House, if you are inwardly insecure, you will not know your authentic self. You are, therefore, constantly proving your identity by asserting yourself and your personality, especially through your actions. With Mars in the 1st House, you have no control over your desires, but you feel a right to pursue whatever you want without consideration for others.

Having Mars in the 1st House, if you are not taking action, particularly if you are not asserting yourself in some way, you are likely to feel vulnerable and empty. Others may consider you to be pushy or too aggressive, or even anti-social in your behavior. However, you consider that such behavior establishes your identity and gains you the respect of others.

Focus of Desires

With Mars in the 1st House, your desires are likely to be highly personal. At times, it may appear – or be the case – that your desires are self-centered. Your desires are likely to strongly reflect your own self-identity. This is so because, with Mars in the 1st House, the focus of your desires is to establish your identity and have a strong presence. For some, this focus becomes a desire to know yourself.
