Mars in Scorpio in the Fifth House

The placement of Mars in Scorpio indicates that you are likely to have desires that spring from a need for power or intimacy and that your actions are likely to be influenced by your intense emotional drives. This often manifests in your actions having an intensity that is the result of focused emotional energy. Others may, therefore, see you as powerful or aggressive. Much of the behavior and many of the personality characteristics associated with Mars in Scorpio are a result of your deep need for emotional security that is brought about through intimacy  or feeling that you are in control of your actions and desires.

Although Scorpio was formerly considered to be ruled by Mars, the Mars in Scorpio placement has its ambiguities. This is symbolized by the natural quincunx between Scorpio and Mars-ruled Aries. Scorpio is the Fixed Water sign. The active functions associated with Mars symbolically tap into the source of power inherent in Scorpio’s watery depths. The Mars-Scorpio relationship may be likened to that of fire and water in a boiler. What is produced is high-pressured steam and energy. When there is a controlled and constructive outlet for this energy, it is a powerful source  of work. If the energy is blocked, suppressed and bottled up with no outlet, it becomes destructively explosive. Scorpio’s association with sexuality through the intense duality inherent in Pluto, its ruling planet, tends to heighten the sexual dimension associated with Mars.

Mars also symbolizes the animus in the psyche. Thus, if you are male with Mars in Scorpio, you are likely to model your masculinity in order to incorporate characteristics typically associated with Scorpio. As alluded to above, this often is associated with an identification of masculinity with sexuality and often, the Scorpio Mars male must struggle to rise above this tendency or to overcome or control intense sexual impulses. If you are female, you are likely to be attracted to someone who projects or embodies Scorpio-associated traits. This often manifests as an attraction to powerful, magnetic or sexually vibrant men.

Insecurities

Having Mars in Scorpio, because you are inwardly insecure, you are always seeking power in order to validate your selfhood and attain a feeling of security. If you attain power, you mistake the power that you feel as being personal and yours, rather than recognizing the truth that all power is from the One Source and is only lent to us for our use. Because you have a need to prove your superiority to yourself, you use this power to dominate others. Pure lust for power is a symptom of your inner feeling of powerlessness.  With Mars in Scorpio, you may also fear being controlled and so, in defense, seek to act to control others. On the other hand, if you are extremely insecure, you may shrink from asserting power either out of fear of the consequences should you misuse that power or out of fear that your use of power may prompt someone with greater power to exercise it against you.

Mars in the 5th House:

Mars in the 5th House suggests that you have a strong desire to express yourself and a confident pattern of action. Generally, you are not afraid to expose yourself and to act in ways or in venues that are very public. At times, having Mars in the 5th House, you may seem to be seeking attention, but in actuality, if you are healthy emotionally, you are usually only trying to express yourself.

With Mars in the 5th House, you are likely to act with enthusiasm, particularly when what you are doing has a creative element. You tend to enjoy engaging in creative activities. You may also enjoy working with children in order to express and channel both your own and their creative energies. For you, action is likely to be first and foremost an act of creative self-expression.

Having Mars in the 5th House, you may see what you do as saying something about yourself. You will therefore, generally care what others may think about your actions. This concern may provide you with an element of caution and a check on your otherwise free expression. As an individual with Mars in the 5th House, you are likely to want your actions to be appreciated, not condemned. At any rate, you are likely to feel that you have a lot of energy to express and be willing to assert yourself openly in order to express yourself.

Insecurities

With Mars in the 5th House, if you are inwardly insecure, your prime concern will be to be recognized and respected and to have others pay attention to you. Consequently, your actions will be directed to achieve this result. You are always calling attention to yourself by what you do and you are not satisfied unless what you are doing is in the limelight.  If no attention is being paid to you, your existence and individuality are not being validated. You will usually respond by insisting to be noticed.

Having Mars in the 5th House, you may be so insecure about your worth that you totally avoid attention at all costs and becomes uncomfortable if you land in the spotlight. You may appear shy, bumbling and hesitant to take action. Often, however, this is an attention-seeking ploy. You secretly hope that someone will notice you, even though you are frightened by such an event. You desire to be recognized and appreciated, but if you are not, you will settle for pity.

Focus of Desires

As an individual with Mars in the 5th House, you generally desire to express yourself and will also desire those things that display your creativity and express your self-identity. You usually will desire attention, in some form or another. Often, you will desire respect and recognition.  You also are likely to desire to engage in creation. You may desire children, or you may desire to take part in some creative activity, such as drama or artistic creation.
